Quality wire, plenty of practise on travel speed, gun angle and travel speed has finally got some good looking lap weld over 6mm steel plate

Yeah theres undercut, running at 110 amps out of a possible 130.

Its getting better!

P.S. the last picture is a quickly made idea for practicing butt welds without much steel. Zintex doesnt stand a chance with gasless wire.

Hi merlin
Not bad looking lap joints
Is the top fillet a attempt at vertical?
If so juice up a little (if machine allows) and hold your toes, let the pool wet in to give you a nice flat weld with good side wall fusion.

Hi 'Russler, Welcome to the forum!

Its a flat positioned weld (PA)

The machine is only 130 amps but it was set for 110 amps. I don't normally use the mig for practice welds such as this, (I'm 95% of the time stick welding) as the 1/2 kilo spools my mig take are burned away in less that 40 minutes. Rods are cheaper than wire

I shall give what you advise a go tommorow night.

Does anybody use flux cored wire on an industrial level? What kind of industries use this stuff?

Hi merlin,

All industries use FCAW, from pipe to shipbuilding
, not done much of it myself the stuff I work on never really calls for it, although I'm trying to convince my boss to buy a set for the mild steel pipe spools in our work shop, save changing rods all the time.
