The last few weeks I have been advising a MIS on rebuilding paraffin based equipment.
Bow torches, stoves, lanterns and heaters.


It meant a lot of times of stamping out new sealing washers, gaskets and NRV rubbers.

I am now very short of Rubber sheet and Red fibre sheet material to stamp out any more in the future.


Can any one advise a place I can contact to get some from.

My last place will not let me in, HRD Pompy.

I have often used old car tyre inner tubes - would they be ok for you?
Tyre places usually have some old knackered ones they are glad to give away.

They will do for some of the rubber.

But the red fibre gaskets sheet is the problem. They are an odd size.

Have you tried getting imperial sized fibre washers from one of the classic car restoring supplies company ?

Didn't know you could get that in sheets.

Yes you can, or could.
I think I could use the same material used in 4 bolt steam flanges at a push. But I was trying to keep it looking like the original.

Thank you I will look.

But the issue we have is that some of the seals and washers are an odd size. Neither metric or imperial.
Hence why we ended up wad cutting them out.

Sounds like the external diameter of an internal sized imperial pipe plus the wall thickness x2 .

Mantek in Aldershot, I went there once and they cut some square edge o-rings for a tyre changer. Really interesting place, guy looked through all the dies hanging on the wall and found two that were close and cut them while I waited.

Often quite surprising what some places can do for you - we use Dobsons gaskets in Keighley. Send 'em a dxf CAD file of your gasket, and they can cut it quickly and accurately for a very reasonable figure, and advise on suitable materials.
