I need to remover the remains of a clutch cover gasket on my little Honda trailie but as it's a while since I did any of this I was wondering if there was an 'new' proven products that will make the job easier and not remove the exterior finish. . i always used to use a modified wood chisel but always managed to mark the faces . Any recommendations please.

) that are nice for cleaning up flat steel or iron surfaces without gouging them. However, bronze can also scratch aluminium, so keep that in mind. I've used them to remove cylinder head gasket residue, among other things. A quick edge touch-up before each scraping job helps. As to some kind of solvent for softening the gasket, it all depends on the gasket material and what kind of cement, if any, was used, so I don't have any specific suggestions, although I've used Permatex gasket remover with some success. I'm not sure how it compares with Loctite 7200.
