Just factory rules, thats it, attitude was If you don't want to work to our rules don't come, that was just one of several stupid things, I never went back, not worth the hassle,

We started on site doing some works welding up UB's for shoring. Down a hole, middle of nowhere. Can you erect some screens around yourselves? We told em no in polite terms and the reasons why. The main contractor took it upon themselves to set their lads on with putting screens round us - herras panels around the hole with building paper attached. It was only 20 mins until we had the whole lot alight, and the same lads came back with the extinguishers.

When questioned, a lot can't give a reasoned answer. Just cos it says you have to do it - no thinking about it, no practicality applied - just cover my **** attitude.
Those who can apply common sense and practicality rate highly in my book.

It got daft on that site.
I ripped up the hot works permit after that episode and refused to carry out any further works until our work area was made safe. Which they did. They would question you about every last thing, including condeming leads for more than 4 taped repairs - then set you off to work with a hole full of old timber, plastic sheets stacked nearby and moan if you asked them to get it sorted.
Were were basically stabilising a building that they had dug too close to. The job was bad enough without dealing with no b heads.
I hasten to add that was when i was working for previous outfit! I am no longer known as 'angry welder'!

heres a good un, mate was working on a live fireing range last week, **** end, privately owned island patrolled by the MOD, the only ones there for about 2 miles.......

Reminds me of a book I've just read about Apache helicopter pilots in Afghanistan. I thought acetylene could be transported laid down as long as when it was stood back upright is was left for a while to let the acetone settle again.
Woz, oh master of all gasses, - can you confirm?
I spoken to my supplier and the unofficial line is as many hours as it was on its side, it must be upright before using.
All the other gases are simply compressed gas so it makes no odds. Acetylene is the odd one out as it disolved in a acetone which has to be allowed to drain back into the honey comb before attempting to draw off the gas. If not you get acetone in your regulators and lines....not good.
Official line ...you will pay us to deliver your cylinders in a proper lorry.
