Gas to wire ratio

as a general idea, I know there are many factors but for a rough idea how many rolls of wire (15kg) are equivalent to how many bottles of gas (size W)?

I don't weld every day but I do quite a bit, it seems as if I'm useing roughly 1 bottle of gas to 1 roll of wire dose this sound about right?

Very roughly, about 1.5 15kg spools per W size bottle.

I'm probably some are near as I chop and change from 0.8 and 1mm, so can never get an accurate measure.

Say you run your wf speed at 5mtr/min and a mtr of wire is 10 grams and you have a 20l gas bottle at 10 LPM
In 20 mins consistent welding you will empty the bottle and consume 100 Mtr of welding wire weighing 1 kg.

This is how I would calculate it roughly but obviously using the correct values. I just used these values as an example.

Well a W size gas bottle is 11000 ltr so you can work it out using the correct wfs and correct weight of a mtr of your wire.

I've worked it out at just less than 2 spools per cylinder.

Exactly it's very dependent on wire feed speed.
The more wire you feed the more wire you'll consume per cylinder.

About 1:1 for me but it's a lot of faffing about welding mostly

If you're just doing a lot of small jobs then your gas usage will be higher as there's always some loss purging and emptying the gas line at the beginning and end of each session.
