gas storage

I think my welder has turned up today (thanks weldequip) so I am going to be getting some scrap metal over the weekend and then next week will be sorting out some gas.

Most of what I'll be doing is little jobs, mainly exhausts, with a few under car tacks. So will mainly be working on driveways, patios, and garages, that sort of place, and mainly at weekends or the odd evening.

What sort of thing should I be looking for in a place to store the gas canister when its out of use?

Just keep it on the back of the machine in the garage; it's non-flammable so no dangers there. I know it sounds obvious, but make sure you turn the cylinder off with the key whenever it's not in use; the amount of times customers have forgotton to turn the cylinder off & had gas leak 'somewhere' is untrue.

Absoloutley, yes. The only real danger from Argoshield is that it's an asphyxiant so can be dangerous in confined spaces. So long as you have good ventilation nothing to worry about.

Should be OK. The biggest danger is suffocation, so a leaky bottle in a sealed shed may suffocate you pet hamster.

I'm going to build a cupboard outside that has a 2 inch gap at the top & bottom of the doors to store my bottles.

If you want to play by the book you could fix a hazard warning sign to the door that says "Non Flammable Compressed Gas", it is a green diamond with a picture of a gas cyclinder and lettering in black. I suspect this only applies to business premises though.

That could upset the neighbours, any mention of gas & some people get twitchy!

I don't want that thing blowing my shed up and leaving a hole in me mums garden lol

LOL - Make sure the nozzle's always at the top so if it does go off it will bury itself into the ground rather than go into orbit!!
