Hi
Just bought a Clarke 160tm welder and its now come to sorting my gas.
I am planning on welding alot of standard steel (mainly vechicle work) but in the near future i will be welding stainless steel (exhausts and downpipes).
Ive always used c02 for standard steel, and ive heard argon mixtures are used for stainless??
I would ideally like to only have to buy one gas cylinder that has a mixture of gases that can be used in both situations...rather than having to buy two bottles and pay more.
Taken from a previous thread:
" If your planning to MIG weld stainless ideally you want to be using argon + 2% CO2, any more CO2 and you'll get problems with surface oxides.
Also remember most gas companies 5% CO2 mixtures (Argoshield Light, Coogar 5 etc etc) also contain 2% oxygen
Don't use straight argon for anything else apart from aluminium"
So can i use a gas mix of "Argon with 2% c02" for welding in both applications? Or have i got it totally wrong???
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
