Gas or No Gas

Which gas should I be using and why ? 75/25 or Carbon Dioxide. Most of the time am welding 3/16 plate with solid core wire. What happens if I dont use gas at all.

If you don't use any gas and don't use flux cored wire the weld splaters like heck and the result is a mess

The gas shields the weld and protects it as well as stabilises the arc (more so if you use argon/co2 mix)

A heck of a lot of spatter, terrible looking welds and weak pourous welds.

Turn the gas off and try it on some scrap, then try to break them apart. I guarantee you will never turn the gas off and try to weld again.
