Gas Mixes

hello all,i am hoping to get myself a bottle and gas for my welder soon.ive seen on most posts that argon/co2 mix seems to be the best.however,these mixes seem to be available in many differant rates of mix.i will be welding mostly,if not all mild steel,and think from the posts that ive read that maybe a 80%argon/20%co2 mix would maybe be the one to go for.just thought i would ask on here first for peoples opinions or advice on which mix to go for.

What thicknesses are you going to be welding, for 5mm and under, a 5% mix would be best, 20% for thicker material.

thanks guys. it will mostly be under 5 mm.when you say 5% mix,do you mean 5% co2? 95% argon or the other way round?

5% would be 5% CO2, 2% O2 and 93% Argon.

95/5 Ar/CO2 would produce tall welds.
