Gas lens

Hi guys,

I'm looking to get a gas lens for my inverter fusion 200hf. I'm not sure how to work out the torch size. I'm messaged weldequip but I think he must be busy.

can anyone point me in the right direction?

Just wanted to say a big thank you to weldequip for my lovely gas lens and other bits and pieces. Ordered yesterday afternoon and got it this morning!!!

They've always mystified me too. Something to do with focusing the gas to allow the torch to be further from the workpiece than normal (which sounds like a good idea for DIY). But not the standard stuff you normally be given when you ask for TIG torch bits.

Sure these guys will enlighten us.

gas lens is the pink ceramic that shrouds the electrode ,comes in different sizes for better access to joints .least thats what i call them

The pink Ceramic,is the errr Ceramic. A Gas Lens is the bit that the Ceramic screws onto, there are two main types...........a Gas Lens and a Jet Lens. Gas Lenses are best IMO, they have a gauze inside that the gas flows thru, it gives much better gas coverage and you can put use much wider Ceramics on them

Ive used the gas cups and they work well, But i will look in to getting a "proper" gas lens, Cheers for the link wozzer

On tig its usually either known as Gas Cup or Gas Lens Ceramic, Shrouds are for mig.

Not that it makes much difference, anyone would know what you ment if you said Tig gas shroud.

Here is a Jet lens, although they are just calling it a collet body on this site http://www.thewelderswarehouse.com/Welding/tig-welding-collet-body-17.jpg

The Collet is the thing you put the Tungsten in first, hollow cylindrical tube.

That just leaves the Back cap, which you can generally get in 3 lengths, long (which takes full length tungsten), medium (which takes about half length tungsten) and short, which fits flush at the back of the torch (for welding in tight spaces)

oops .....thanks for clearing that up woz/matt,used to call ceramic "gas lens ceramic" ,didn't know there was another type of "gas lens",.....is there anything similar for mig i don't know about yet?

gas lens ceramic is right, but only of you are using a Gas lens........a gas lens ceramic won't fit on a Jet lens for example.

I'm thinking about investing in a lens. Said to greatly improve shielding around weld area whether it's windy or not.
It'd be nice if a few more manufacturers included them as standard kit.

Have a look at welduk.com (http://www.welduk.com/Details.asp?ProductID=601) for the gas lens and ceramic. I weld outdoors and I seem to suffer less when it's windy when using a gas lens. The welds aren't any neater but that's more to do with me needing more practice.
