Gas heating

Has anyone tryed putting a heater on their torch, to get more use from a bottle? Im planning to use disposables
Might reduce splatter?


Ive done some searching - heaters are used with dip tube co2 bottles, and if theres moisture in them, but at the bottle/regulator, and wont heat it much.


Im going to guess that at 300c, the gas volume is about double. I couldnt find a density graph.


could be done by wrapping the swan neck with mica and nichrome wire, of which I have plenty. And could be powered from the torch. It should take about 4-10 amps from the welder.

To get hotter would need more hacking.

Even if it would work, disposables are still too expensive.

Get yourself a pub CO2 bottle and reg

cant really see it working just by heating up the swan neck i would think that you would need a heated set of coils for the gas to flow through and being powered by the welder would mean you would have to be welding for a while before it heated up as there would only be power when you were welding and as shenion said disposable botles are a complete waste of time and money

Agreed. I will be starting with a refillable sealey bottle, then I might get argon from adams gas.

Ive done a simlar thing before as a hot air soldering pencil. I think a 5 ohm coil would fit inside the gas cup. Either need to insulate it or get a tig ceramic cup.

should heat quick enough.

separate power supply might be needed on anything but lowest amps..


Also, if like to see if it helps with pure argon/mild steel. I dont plan on having two big bottles, and would like to do alu/stainless once Ive had some practise.
