Gas cylinder ID - rented or rent free?

Ive been trying to allocate some funds to a rent free for a while, and have come across these locally -

Theyre not a whole load of good to me if theyre empty contract ones, but could save me the deposit cost if i can get them exchanged.

(i know one is co2, but im not sure of the argon mix on the others)

They have side entry valves, but i doubt this is conclusive?

Not much use to anyone really but the owner who will be stamped/marked on them, unless you find somebody who can refill them for you, a few dodgy dealers about if you can find them.

Are they company marked up at all?

Are you saying that they are rented ones then? Im just wanting to save myself the £70 deposit on a rent free...

All i have is the photo so far. Theyre only just down the road though, so i may have to go and eyeball them myself?

You cant tell if they are rental ones untill you know who owns them, i used to work for a gas cyl supply company and if you get found refilling somebody elses cylinders you can get done over good time, i have seen a few dodgy compaines end up in serious fines doing so. The place i worked at sell the co2 with no deposit for around £15 each, have a look around your local area to see if there is a pub gas suppliers that will sell you one off contract. Air Liquid suppliers mite do it, but not direct from them.

Can't really tell by looking at them but the cylinder colours indicate one may be CO2 and the others may be compressed air. As has been said you could well struggle to find someone willing to fill them for you, especially as you have no proof of ownership or test certificates for them. There is normally some indication on the cylinders as to which gas company they belong to

the three grey cylinders are all air, the all grey cylinder is the old type id (no shoulder colour) and from colour alone the black one could be pure Co2 or oxygen

I would say the black is c02 and the other mixed either 70/30, 60/40 or 50/50, as they are all pub gas cylinders i think?

Shirley the green tops mean argon or argon mix? **** poor standardisation right enough; the new stuff is as ridiculous as making all fire extinguishers red and wondering why people get confused and make mistakes when under pressure, like when they're on fire.

I would have though that the beverage industry will also follow the code they already have cylinders with coloured shoulders on them

Air Liquid beverage cylinders are c02 grey body purple collar and mixed are grey body pink collar so not sure and they are new and old codes.

its not the collar that denotes the gas its the shoulder of the cylinder and air liquide do follow the code for drink dispensing gases

This is why BOC will always tell you that you can only ever identify what is in a gas cylinder by what is written on it rather than go by the colour codes, if there is no clearly written identification on a cylinder you should always exchange it

they look like pub cyls to me, one was co2 the rest are co2 / nitrogen mix at a guess

Still have not seen them, but the chap says theyre owned by "A gas".

Just tried to call AGas Bristol but theyre closed. Will call again in the morning, but anyone know what the situation is with them?
