Gas Choices

Hi,

Me again...

I've just purchased a second hand Cebora Pocket Turbo 130 Mig Welder, now obviously need gas to use it. I'd prefer to purchase / rent a refillable bottle if possible, but having problems finding places near Loughborough / Nottingham, and info on how much it's going to cost me.

What options do I have when it comes to choosing a gas, and does anyone know of any suppliers in my area? I've looked at the supplier list, but can't find anything local.

I've heard of using pub gas, but don't know what the pros and cons are of this.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Pub gas that is CO2 will work. But a lot of pub gas contains CO2 and nitrogen, which will be useless. Argon/CO2 mix will produce much better welds.

Look in YP for BOC, Air Liquide, Air Products. (Generally Air Liquide will be the cheaper of the big 3 -- they have a website with agents on it).

Useful to ask at body shops, motor factors, small fab shops, etc. They won't bite your head off!

You can probably add Energas to the list. I'm pretty sure they operate in your area. They supply from their own yards as well as through their own larger customers, who act as stockists/distributors.

The nearest Energas depots to Loughborough & Nottingham are either Derby or Burton.

Yup, I'm in north staffs, the nearest depot is Derby, the nearest agent is less than 5 miles away - very handy

I spoke to some gas suppliers round here (BOC stockists), and prices seem to be the same:

BOC Argoshield - ~£50 rental per year, and £40 to refill
Generic CO2 - £20 for an empty bottle, £20 to refill
