fella i did the incinerator for wants me to make a small cold smoker for him and his mates gonna get my head round it tonight

Right, Ive got me 19Kg bottle, fiver from the recycling place It was empty when I aquired it and its been sat upside down with the vavle open for about a week. Just tried to remove the valve - no joy there So I tried to fill it with water, just spent over an hour an a hlf to get less than a litre in it Does this mean the valve is U/S?? Is it safe to drill/grind on it?? I think it'll be alright but a second opinion never hurts
If i'm goning to burn wood I dont need a lower air inlet do I???

yeah valve has left hand thread to get water into use more pressure and hold hosepipe hard into valve then every few seconds let gas out
drill now will be fine put first hole in bottom right corner of where door gonna be 11mm drill bit if using jigsaw
put valve in to a vice on bench after it is empty and put breaker bar into the handle to help you get it started it will be well tight my first took me 30. mins LOL
after valve out do what you will to it smell will not go untill you have lit it first time.
correct about lower air hole not needed but bear in mind it will still need to get air into aid combustion
I put one in anyway it can be blocked if not needed

Waste oil burners are a bit different from wood burners. One of the links Funstui posted gives a good explanation of how they work, but basically you drip the oil into a hot dish which vaporises it and the vapour burns. You need a vertical air inlet immediately above the burner, which causes the flames to fan outwards heating the steel of the cylinder and thus radiating the heat into the room.
(At least, that's how I understand it to work)

I just used to build a fire around then with the valve open,

They don't blow as no pressure to build up when the valves open.

Also helps if you have access to wide open space to perform such a reckless trick.......

Hi Everyone,
I remember about 40years ago the local garage owner used to run his workshop heater on waste motor oil, the stove was just one of the old fasioned pot bellied type, I believe it had either fire bricks or a steel plate in the bottom. I think he burned oily rags to raise the temp,when the bricks or plate was hot enough he drip fed old engine oil and water thro' two seperate pipes, it used to glow like a blast furnace, and all for free !!

gas bottle wood stove

hi there i am a new member too this help full site .i wont to make a gas bottle wood stove for my workshop i have a problem trying to get the valve off the top of the gas bottle . its a small 5 kg calour have heard of people drilling it with lots of oil. an an other one bashing it off with a sleg ..... both seem bit riskey any help much welcome ta .

I think you will find it's a left hand thread. Have you tried unscrewing it the other way?

hi there i am a new member too this help full site .i wont to make a gas bottle wood stove for my workshop i have a problem trying to get the valve off the top of the gas bottle

The valves are in pretty tight, I used a short length of scaffold tube to remove mine. Cut a notch out of one end to slip over the valve. At the other end cut 2 notches opposite each other that a crowbar can sit across. Strap the bottle to something secure and give the crowbar a tug/push you may need a bit more scaffold on the end of the bar for that extra bit of leverage

I think i must have been lucky with mine, i have done 3 now and each one has come out quite easily with a set of adjustables and a hammer, then again i always give the top of the valve a good sharp knock with a lump hammer, dunno if it actually does anything but i believe it loosens the threads. Always worked for me so far anyhoo!

I got a couple of 12kg bottles through freecycle but they don't have valves. How do I open them to make sure all the gas is out?

Just push a big nail in the top. Pressing down the valve button in the centre. Its fine if the bottle is empty - You will still get a little hiss of gas. Leave the nail wedged in there a little while (day or two) to vent the gas. If its full then I wouldnt reccomend you try this method.

Yes - well SeGas Bottle 12kg.
I went for the slightly unconventional style of front door opening to make it easy to brush out.
The flu pipe is just over 3 inch and came from my broken rowing machine. I have a little bit more to do on the stove. Like fit the small viewing window with a sliding door. I also need the pipe for the chimney - any ideas what can be recycled?

They say snow today, sadly looks like I missed the deadline to get the thing installed before the really cold weather gets here.

Went out today to buy some paint rollers. On my way back I saw a length of pipe on the grass beside the road. Went back, picked it up and in the boot of the car. Its a perfect flu for my stove! I think it was a bollard that must have been dumped. About 3mm thick wall. Great find - been out in the workshop preparing it for the past hour. One mans junk is another mans treasure...
