gas bottle to refill with argon

is it possiable to use a empty butane gas bottle and get it refilled with argon?

its a 11.5kg bottle size

Butane 12 bar.

I don't think any one would do that for you. The safety implications of putting wrong gasses in wrong cylinders are horrendous.

It won't work (regulators are completely different). More importantly, the pressures are very different. As Wyn says, no reputable person would do that for you (they'd probably ring the police) and no one else would have the kit to do it.

You really have to bite the bullet and ring your Air Liquide dealer..........

They're different colours, different designs, different regulators. Put 240 bar in something that's maybe tested to 20 and you have a very powerful bomb indeed!

One of my main bugbears is people suggesting allsorts of dangerous ways to get cheap or free welding gas. We all hate paying for something that is sat idle for the majority of the time but unfortunately we have to put up with it.

I assumed your moniker was a company name and therefore you would have an understanding of this, my mistake .

Edit: Also, a search for butane throws this up, the same question asked only last month .

On a serious note. despite what you may read on here from time to time and what others may suggest, the only safe way is to have the correct gas in the correct cylinder at all times.

The cheapest option for low-volume users is to find a supplier that does a non-rental agreement. Pay a deposit up front for the cylinder plus the cost of the gas then it's just pay for a new cylinder of gas as and when you need one without paying a standing charge every month like the big players, air products, BOC, air liquide etc.
I'm certain there wouild be one near enough to you (assuming you are able to collect?) to make it worth your while. Some will also deliver for a modest fee.
