Gas bottle positioning and fittings

I'll ask this here as its a gas thingy
Do bottles have to be upright,could they still function just as well if they were horizontal,i'm talking about welding gas CO2 and Argon mix.

On the fittings side are or could quick release fittings the same you use or thereabouts for compressed air or is there something out there more special etc.

The reason i ask is this,i do a bit of MOT welding for a good friend,i can use his gas no problem,to save me fiddleing about with the key/spanner and lifting the Y bottle off the back of my welder could i say have it on some brackets hanging off the wall etc,same with his at the other end,call it plug and play if you like?

It's best to use the bottle upright as some gases when compressed turn into liquids which can damage seals on regs.

With fittings I think any air/gas tight fittings should do, there are others here who have used quick release fittings for such applications

Argon, and argon mixes, will work fine on their side.

CO2 won't as it is stored as a liquid, and if used on its side liquid tries to go through the regulator instead of gas.

Well it's mostly argon mixed both mine and the other end so thats good news thanks

I've always had a massive bottle 47 litre size. It works out the same price apparently. I originally was in a small garage so it stood in the corner. I build a trolly to hold the bottle but the floor in the new workshop floor is a little uneven and the trolly is a little top heavy,which means its nearly toppled over.

So with the new welder on the horizon and the bottle is empty It's either a smaller bottle on the trolly or the big bottle in the corner and pipped out

My thoughts are for the latter and make a new trolly to house the new mig and plasma cutter. Then run air and gas to the 32A socket and run an umbilical out to the trolly carrying the air gas and power. That way the bottle(s), if it's mixed and pure argon, can stay safely out the way.
It just struck me that the power had has to trail out anyway and the plasma need air too.

So the trolly will be a be a wedding hub with a 32A supply. The units can plug in to a wee distribution board and a couple of sockets too for grinder lamp another like. As the air is coming outtoo, it can have a wee regulator
