Gas bottle log burner

Right now that winter is well and truly here and my garage now feeling like it's below 0*c all the time I am thinking about making a log burner.

I have a few questions first is how well do log burners heat a large garage, the size of my garage is 5m*9m and is around 3m high so will it heat that space?
Secondly is a 47kg bottle going to be to big or will a 19kg be better.

You can always build a small fire in a big bottle, but not a big fire in a small bottle, so use the bigger bottle. Also you'll spend less time stoking it.

There are loads of designs on here for gas bottle stoves, I prefer the horizontal ones.

Yeh been looking at all the burners on this site. Just need to know if it's going to produce the right amount of heat for my garage.

it will heat your garage no problem but make sure your flu is wide enough, you have means of controling the air and that you have something in place to stop the fire spilling out when you open the door a lot of people overlook the last

I`ve just spent 1/2 an hour looking through my bookmarks but cant find the link i was looking for.
Basically there was a solid heat shield wrapped around the horizontal bottle/burnerwith 1 inch spacers, at the back of the shield there was a funnel that had a fan at its apex blowing the hot air forward and causing it to circulate around your workshop. The one i had in mind had a lever and vent system to open the bottom of the bottle/burner to force feed air into the fire to help get it burning. I hope i`ve explained this clearly enough for you to understand, it creates a forced circulation rather than just a radiant heat.

i find i am getting a lot of heat coming from the flue, i would keep as much on the inside of the workshop as you can
with a small boiler you could also add radiators
i have got 3 rads running off my fire and it works great
mine runs 2 workshops the one with the fire in is 7x4meters
and the one with the rads is 6x4 meters
and they are both warm

i did, then i took it out, i thought it was the cause of the smoke coming back out of the door when i opened it

it turned out the flue was in the wrong place, to the back of the bottle, i have just moved it to the middle and now it is working fine
i also found that when i was doing the mountain bothies and they had fires the flues there also gave of a lot of heat, not a bad thing in a cold old stone building

Thanks for the info everyone. Looks like I will be chopping up my 47kg bottle next week once it runs out of gas.
