I have been using Nextbase cameras for a few years and happy with them, it's worth getting one with a detachable mount so you don't come out to this....

Yes I had one of the permanent mounted type, the only upside was I had used cable ties to secure the cable so it broke when they pulled it and would need to get a new one to use the camera.
I have had Tom Tom for many many years and it was ok, Especially the one I had as you could talk to it and ask for directions while not taking your hands off the steering wheel..... But But last Christmas I bought a Garmin and I love it plus free life upgrades are included. I cant talk to this model of Garmin like I did to the Tom but the good points out way that. Garmin is the one to go for.

I'm also interested in getting a dash cam.
I've checked the reviews of that Garmin, nextbase and other makes on Amazon.
Feedback varies a lot, with some good points around the foibles of sd issues /software/ setup and construction - bit of a minefield so it seems..

i have a cheapy in the works van.. its ok... like the smallness of the garmin, just been reading the manual, re the wifi, just top give live view when parked up... not really interested in that

I use a Nextbase 412GW (probably superseded now) connects to my phone so handy for making/receiving calls as my car doesn't have hands free, also means it will pick up delays on the route and give you options to re-route.
I like the dash cams that act as a mirror too. I use 2 in different cars. From the outside they just look like the usual mirror , no suction pads on the screen. I've always bought them from AliExpress and there only about £26 or less. The resolution has got better over the years too. I have also fitted the 5" screen with the small camera's at the back for reversing ,these are very handy . A must too if your towing a trailer , I can now see the trailer and everything on it when driving. Cheap too from AE. Have new ones in boxes if anyone wants to see what there like.

I've had a Garmin Dash Cam 57 and am quite happy with it; it just works and records everything it sees - unlike the Nextbase I had prior to it...
