So, we've not long moved into the new house which has an old freestanding Prefab Garage. It’s not much use as a garage any more as access to the rear of the property is a little restricted nowadays but the 4 walls are too good to waste. As you can see from the photos, the roof needs replacing, its currently Plywood covered with felt which is covered with a tarpaulin, and it still leaks. Once it dries up a little I will be putting a new roof on, I will probably just replace the whole lot with like for like, the roof is slightly sloped to the rear of the building so will put a length of guttering on the rear.
I would eventually like to insulate it a bit if possible but there is a decent amount of damp which seems to be seeping through at the bottom of the walls where they touch the concrete floor. I’m wondering if it would help If i put down a decent sized sloping bed of mortar around the base to allow the rain water to roll off rather that sit on the flat slab of concrete that wall panels sit on and perhaps water proof the mortar? Does anyone have any suggestions for this?
I will also be looking to modernise the electrics for the building as it looks old and probably dangerous. Let me know your thoughts and opinions. I will be doing most of the work myself to keep costs down, except for the sparky work.
