Many years ago my father helped run a pheasant shoot. One night the gamekeeper heard some poachers so went to investigate, once he caught up with them they shoved a shotgun into his belly, he wasn't too happy about this and was ex-SAS anyway, he took the gun off them easily and beat them senseless with the stock. They both went to hospital, he got a ticking off from the police but let off without charge. That's the way things should be

I was a member of a forum for a popular type of motorcycle.
One afternoon one of the guys was having a barbeque when he heard a noise from his garage (which housed several rather tasty and expensively modified bikes)
On the way he just 'happened' to pick up a 2' breaker bar and found two t*sspots trying to remove his bikes. At this point he got a little upset (did I mention he's 6' 4" and 24 stone?)
The outcome being he was taken to court for knocking out one of them and putting the other in hospital with a brocken shin
He got let off with a small fine
No charges were made against the 'poor little scrotes'
What the hell is the world comming to?
Serve him right he should'nt beat them up and put them in hostpital just cos they wanted his stuff.
He wasted medical staff's time & cost us, he should have finished the job with a shallow pit of quicklime.

same here. i have my crowbar collection above my shop door there on a trip wire and all my locks have a ele fence (the biggest one i could fine). also other nastier traps.
i had one person break into my shop he didn't get a very far in, on the account he was passed out and one of the crow bars went into his leg god that had to hurt.
no charge were pressed (on me or him. all tho one of the cops though the crow bar thing was a good idea for his shop 
).Sod loss of earnings, if you steal something from someone you are taking part of their lifespan.
Think about it, we all mostly have to go out to work to earn the money to pay for tools and stuff, we've sold part of our lifespan to a employer in return for money, that we exchange for the tools. So the thief is stealing a small part of our life.
What Ive really sat long and thought hard about is removing the posibility of anyone getting in innocently (fire,police, mrs etc) and getting seriously hurt, but Ive got around that by keeping the dangerous mantrap stuff deep inside. Only the very determined will get that far in, then they already signed up to play in the kitchen by getting that far.
The alarm mine isnt the first thing people find either, and it is quite clearly marked on the doors "enter at own risk, danger of death". Theres also certain traps that I only spring when Im going to be away for extended periods, and I have a rigid disarming list that I force myself to tick off so I don't trigger them myself. Its not just a bit of bravado, ive lived in some rough old neighbourhoods near liverpool and other places all the time with 4 or 5 bikes and tools in my shed, its evolved over the years and attempts but nobody has ever gotten away with anything except the kids who legged it with my angle grinder while i was under a car in the street
If you have opening hinged doors rather than a up and over or the like, another thing you can do is weld some heavy bar to brackets and coachbolt it to the doors, add some braces between bars. Arrange the bars so they stick out past the door edge on the hinge side and drill large sockets in the door frame to accept them. Make p heavy plats with steel liners for the socktes and fischer or rawl the socket plates into the wall good and proper. That way nobody will be able to pop your door at the hinges with anything smaller than a pinch bar and lots of effort.

i like your thinking. i have lived in some bad areas i kno what its like
and i realy like weare we live now i dont have to constantly worry about if i have locked the garage or have i left the quads out. but i still keep a baseball bat under the bed and a fatmax crowbar where i can esaly get to it in the garage supose so habets die hard lol

i wished i live in a area that i did not have to worry about the "crackheads" i live next to a empty lot with some trees and bushes, and there are a few dealers around the block and a rehab house (i have nothing against people trying to get clean just the dealers who are preying on them and setting up shop on my block.)
i live close to the worse areas in my city. i need to get a nice big dog maybe a shepherd or a mutt rottie/pit/or other "dangerous" breeds. (god people are stupid it's not the dog you have to worry about it's how nasty the owner is.)

soupse its a sad faced of life that we have got to protect what we have got such a way you have only got to read the posts that people have put with the protection they use to protect there things but as we tool up so do the scumbags off this world and the police in the uk dont help they are hardly known for terning up when an alarm go's of but over here you feel safer one day erlyer this year ma dad set the alram off by mastake and within 5 min of it going of there was an officer at the front door while one was walking round the back( dont kno who was more shocked my dad or the officer having to live with the image of my dad in a dresssing gown lol)

Just watched an article on the local news about an allotment holder who has been told to take down a single strand of barb wire he put round his plot after he lost all his tools etc.

no dude it's god help the b.tards if any one with a temper fine them. my self included i would have not trouble intedueing lefty and righty to any one i found try to steal my stuff .
