Same as the last two posts ^^.

I think a few have missed it but the angle on the wall is all supported by a downward post as well. Those front ones give some support but as @Agrismith pointed out, they dont need to be inline with what are effectively metal noggins to do their job. I guess they are more for framing the space behind as the OP has pointed out.

Double check photos. The beams are clear span wall to wall and front to back beams are 6 little short lengths. Pic no. 4 shows the clear span beams prior to the short lengths being inserted.

im wrong as i hadnt noticed they was full lengths from wall to wall

as i thought they was split beamed from the rear wall to the front beam and noggin beam between them

as i had to look it up last night your supposed to bolt under the beam for strength now the 2 rear ones are also supported at the sides with the uprights so that cancels that comment but the front 2 are not

Could someone point me to a procedure for calculating the capacity of the outstanding leg of a continuous joist ledger? This would be similar to the capacity of a beam flange with a concentrated load.

the framing is not the way i would have built it

2 pillars either side beams rested on them and run the beams front to back then added supports within the middle to spread the load

even building another concrete wall to sit the beams onto on the back wall with a front beam also supported

since the op has just asked to further add a beam lift then pillers and beams would have been an advatage as they could have been used for a beam lift

On a serious note….amateurs go one of two ways….most over engineer to excess, the odd one would use tilers lats

No I’m pleased it’s generated that much discussion. Everyone has their own way of doing things but it’s only me who has to stand underneath it and I’m quietly confident it won’t fall on my head even with an engine or two up there. The garage hasn’t fallen down yet and I built that 5 years ago so I’m going to go with “ she’ll be reet”
