much better to use copper pipe more surface area in contact with the water and heat transfer with copper is better then aluminium

Yes but copper cost money!!! and you don't get to drink as much beer especially as its saving the planet
also this is heating air not water in this design and aluminium in the cans is very thin so transfers the heat rapidly - important point though is after construction the heat produced is Free
a flat panel is quicker from any reasonable size sheet metal not as much Hic fun

You can get small tube heaters (40-60w), should give off more heat than a lightbulb per watt as it's not producing light

sure you can but..... 2 x 10 watt bulbs in battern holders is far cheaper to buy and run 24/7 just to keep dampness away .
