Garage floor

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to level out a garage floor, it currently has a concrete floor that has large protruding bumps all over the place, i've just replaced the roof so would like to get this done too before kitting it out as a workshop/mancave.

The only thing putting me off self levelling compounds/screeds is i have heard people say that they can crack easily and are meant as a base for laminate, tiles etc,
But if this stuff does the job that would be great.
What thickness did you have yours?

Its not level and there are large bumps all over, around 20mm at the highest points,
I would at least like to have a level surface throughout.

There’s different types, this is meant as a top surface. Don’t scrimp or you’ll be doing it twice. It was a while ago, maybe 15mm.

This is cempolay ultra after 9 years of abuse.
It cost more than any other but it is also frost resistant.
Shop around for a deal. It's made by Bostik.

You have lots of options.
You could grind all the high spots until it is level (kit can be hired but a pig of a job.
Or take the top off the worst bumps and fill the lows (Will end up patchy and could fail in places)
Put a new screed on top of the existing (Could be expensive for a big floor)
Dig it out and start again (Even more expensive and a real pig of a job)

All of the cementitious screeds or repair mortars do not like feather edges or thin layers.
The chemical versions (epoxy, polyester, and the rest) stick far better but are "much" more expensive

A 25kg bag of cement based screed will give you 12litres of product when it's mixed.
Work out what you need and see if you want to spend that much.
If you can raise the floor over 50mm (75 would be better) just cast a new floor over the top of the existing.

If more of a man-cave than machine room you could consider:

Set tiling battens on damp proof membrane at 400mm spacing.
Use plastic spacers as required to level (cheap Lidl/Aldi laser level is adequate)
Fit 25mm expanded polystyrene insulation - or Celtotex if affluent - between battens.
Fit 18mm T& G bathroom grade chipboard or OSB3.

Flat, level and insulated.
Fine for floor jacks and axle stands for cars and light vans.
Fine for general workshop use but probably not for that 2 tonne Bridgeport!
But at least 36 or nearer 50mm increase in overall level.

Offspring has done this for the ground floor of his house.

i wish i'd done this in my shed/garage before all the benches/cabinets went in.

i did it in the conservatory: but just dp then 2x25mm polystyrene, then 12mm buffalo board (2nd hand hoarding from 5-a-side football pitches) and some 6mm hardwood ply to get it near perfect.
the dp or polystyrene could have gone down on a layer of sand if needed.
i used blackjack, and tbe concrete was newly laid and flat so not needed.

My garage floor was not level, I battoned around the perimeter with 2x1 roofing battens packed with spacers to get it level and then sand and cement mix levelled to the battens. Thinnest part was 20mm or thereabouts
