Garage floor options?

The concrete floor in my garage is not very level, it has ridges and slopes towards the centre of the garage. A local company has quoted me for a resin floor, installed, £1600 for my 30sq.m (322 sq.ft) garage in standard duty and £2600 for heavy duty. Only the heavy duty will take axle stands and trolley jacks etc.

Google says that porcelain tiles are popular in USA but I can't find any here in the UK. Apparently they can take point loads.

Or should I just screed? That would loose me four inches of height in the garage and won't it still dust?

Hire a scarifier, level it and paint with two-pack epoxy.

Flow flex self leveler ...... it may mark but easy to repair

dig it out and get ready mix concrete poured in...will be a far better job and far cheaper than the resin including a 10 yard skip for the spoil

The house is on a slope so the slab is a metre deep in one corner and two layers of rebar!

What's the difference in height. Doesnt matter what type of tile you use, not laid correctly, leaving voids and they will crack.

If its a resin floor then it cant crack as there would be no voids, so the extra cost is worthless

Looking at the spirit level, 1 to 2 inches.

the price here for the resin is 90.00 per 6ft square and you do it yourself

Hi, If the house has integral garage it may have been intentional to keep water from a wet car away from the internal walls of the house. What about putting paving slabs down on a strong mortar mix, which will take point loadings from axle stands? Then sealing the surface afterwards. You shouldn't lose more than a couple of inches or so.

It's standalone, the guy who did the slab just made mistakes! Slabs are an ok idea, they would need to be 50mm slabs though.

Looking at the spirit level, 1 to 2 inches.

Screed it, and power polish. It'll end up flat as, and hard as nails, in a week

2.25 cubic meter of concrete £depends on location around 300quid
£100 for the polisher. 6hrs and it will be done.

Hi, Not necessarily, 35mm will be OK on a solid base like the garage floor with a mortar mix which will be thicker in the middle where the jack and stands will be used.

I've got a very similar problem. The garage is being extended now (just waiting for the door and doors) at a smidge over 30sq.m. the floor is 11" thick concrete, ridged and slopes off slightly to one corner.

I don't want to screed as it'll be a bugger to get vehicles in and out so I was thinking to use those heavy duty rubbery/plastic interlocking tiles. Don't know whether to go for self levelling base or sand/cement mix to fill the ridges.

I'd get some self leveller concrete poured in, leave it a week or two then small square or rectangular terracotta tiles with black grout just like old workshops and heavy vehicle workshops ect...

But no specs on what these tiles will cope with. Garage tiles could be "domestic garage" i.e. no axle stands..

Try the term 'quarry tiles', that's what was traditionally used in garage and commercial premises

It doesn't matter what they are made of.

They will all break if not fully supported underneath with grout.

What would be the steps if taking tile route? I'm thinking:
1. Surface prep tool to grind down some of the ridges
2. Levelling compound
3. Grout & tiles

IMO resin flooring is ok but no stronger than concrete it might look pretty but when it does suffer a crack or chip you wont be able to repair it as easy as concrete either. I had it laid in my work kitchen as the lino was looking dated after just 4 years
