Garage Door Cable.

I have a very old Wayne dalton up and over Garage Door.

It's been great so far but the cables are now pretty mangles the number of times they have come off.

So I have been looking to new cables.
I measured some spare cables I purchased and they are 1.8mm but look about half the diameter of the ones already fitted.
So I got some 4mm wire rope from toolstation.

But its way too thick.

Looking online it seems like Wayne dalton is 2.5mm diameter.
But the usual suspects screwfix toolstation etc don't list 2.5.

B and Q do but theirs is pvc and stainless and I am not sure that will fit etc.

Any suggestion for a speedy solution.
I have purchased some 2.5 of Amazon but it won't be here till 7th march.

I have an old door with cables and just use the cheap replacements. I should knowthe sizes the number of times I have replaced them. I will measure one later.check the length if you have a good one, a few inches to long means my door won’t stay up. I get them off Ebay now.

I forgot to mention this is an electric door. So the cables are adjustable in length where they go through the spools.
Diameter is critical for that reason but also for the lay of the wire as there are formed grooves in the spool.

I used bicycle rear brake cables when i did mine so many years ago, that and a single choc block connector

I used marine qual st steel...the super flex sort......not that expensive....buy by the length and make ur own ends.....
also use the same stuf for antique car cable brakes.....

Problem is I can't find 2.5mm locally and I need the Garage door working this week urgently.

Is there an after market motor that can be fitted into the roof perhaps? For future reference.?

I got odd sized cables in the past from GDS (Garage-Door-Supplies), not sure which website is theirs as there are a few with similar names

Sorry i should have said I got PVC covered 2.5mm cable from B and Q and stripped the PVC and managed to get the door working. thanks for the replies.
