Garage clean up....

Took days to complete and am left with this "junk" that I can't bring myself to bin, one day I'm sure it will come in useful.

think yourself lucky i came back and someones had a tidy up on me

this and that has already gone from the garden even the trailer frame i was going to get going again this year

ive had a tidy up as well since getting on with shed roof 3/4 done including insulated didnt put composite board on roof just used board felt and insulation the rest is all inside now

they know not to touch inside the shed its not worth it for them they kinda got warned to stay out of it and leave it alone

I have a spare? shed on the back of the garage that holds the compressor and several ... about 40 gallons of various oils I have acquired and many useable spares ... lol

I had a set of motor contactors in garage for 20 years then got a skip in and chucked a ton of cr.. p on top of them and filled the skip the next day I needed one and couldn't get them out 30 quid a new one and had to order it

See, now if you'd thrown them away 20 years ago you would've forgotten about them and it wouldn't hurt so bad.

I've started to be more ruthless as well. I'm sure there will be times I curse myself for throwing something out but on the whole it's better to have the space to work more efficiently.

I’m on a mission at the moment to sort through all my assorted tat.

After losing her Mum a couple of weeks back, OH has been sorting through her house, (her Dad died three years ago), and the useless paperwork she saved has to be seen to be believed. 20 year old bank statements, 10 year expired passport, travel brochures from the 1980’s, and so on. I have to sort out their shed at some stage and I know it’s just the same.

With this in mind, I want to get my stuff sorted to save OH the bother of doing it if/when I kipper it. Not being fatalistic, just accepting my own mortality and making it easier for her when I finally shuffle off to the hot place...

I tend to clear out the sheds once a year or so. If i haven’t used something since the last tidy up, out it goes. Normally into the other shed Being honest, I do chuck stuff.

Being a carpenter/builder I tend to keep lots of bits just in case but I make a point of culling it once a year.

Cannot agree with this, for years I have had comments "Dad, why do you keep all this carp?" which might look to support your argument

If it wasn't interspersed with "Dad, this has broken, have you got one?" or "Dad, what can I use to fix this?" and I pretty much always know just where the bit I am looking for is

do a job then tidy work up take it home issues are surprising how much stuff you end up with that youve brought home from a job

Before I built the workshop, I looked at the space and it was full of jabberwockee that I couldn't throw out because it wasn't total rubbish and I knew it would be used some day. Fortuitously, the creation of the workshop itself created a mezzanine space (to go all posh describing a first floor) that is perfect for storing all sorts of jabberwockie.
My feelings about the jibberwookie have come true, and many times in the past couple of years I've gone and fished something out of the pile upstairs.

I've hardly bought any new kit doing my gaff, including workshop. Nearly all of it is gash from outside jobs.

I am a HORDER.

I admit it.

But, I do move stuff on to those who need it, I swop stuff. But when it has to go it goes.

But I will find use for rubbish.

Broken U bolt as anodes in a de-rusting tank.

Damaged hammer shafts, used to hold metal parts in the clear in de-rusting tanks.

Old DC Arc welder, as a de -rusting tank PSU.

Old tools to make welded art.

Wooden box's to make wooden art.

Cardboard box's to make fire starters.

I've got loads of stuff that's too nice to bin but doesn't seem to sell, mostly from hospital skips. I've got a centrifuge and a bronchoscope in the garage rafters, completely useless to me but no interest on eBay and I can't bring myself to bin them, even though that's where they came from.
