I've tried several times to get quotes from builders to build a small retaining wall (4m long x 0.75m high)on my sloping garden so I can have a level area behind the garage for a new shed / workshop. A couple that actually turned up, and measured, never even got back to me with a price. My health is such no way could I build a wall myself so have been looking at alternatives with gabions being the easiest.
Looks are unimportant so I'm thinking of having 1m high gabions and then using paving slabs stood vertically facing outwards so all sorts of (free) rubble can be piled up behind.
Will paving slabs work OK ? Will coarse sand be needed to fill in gaps between the rubble pieces ?
Thanks.
