G3 liquid or paste for compounding by hand

Hi,

I'm just going through the process of colour sanding, compounding and polishing the 2k paint on my kit car. I'm machine compounding it using G3 liquid but some parts of the car are impossible to get to with the machine. When doing it by hand will G3 paste be more effective and less work or should i still go with the G3 liquid?

I would use Witch ever works for you, then if your going for a top job, do it again with g10 then a normal finishing polish.

If it's hs 2k I have been advised to use g4 paste for hand polishing but not tried it yet, but find g3 nowhere near good enough

Hit it with a 1500-2000 g trizact then a 3000g, wont take a lot with the G3 then. I prefer "3m finesse it" to g10.

There is not much in the paste/liquid, just one comes in a handy bottle and is watered down a bit, but a little 3" air DA will get most of the small bits if it goes slow enough.

I'm an old fashioned kinda guy so I flat to 2000 grit then G6 paste, then G3 then G10 or the 3M equivalent, that way has worked for me for the last 30 years, The Trizact discs are very god though.

Interesting that you use G6 Langy. I have been going from 2000 grit to G3 then G10 and sometimes feel the result could be better. I had wondered about using 3000 after the 2000 but I might go for G6 instead.

I have tried the abralon pads in P4000 and these are quite good and sold in packs of two on ebay for £3.95 delivered, for some reason however G3 on my lechlar HS 2k gloss is not really very good, so going to try some other compounds I think G4 is designed for HS paints.

Yes always use G6 paste first, always done it that way, it has a lot of cut but only slight gloss, G3 will bring the shine

How does g6 compare to g4 as my paint suppliers recommended g4 for 2k.
It's just the g3 on my paint is just polishing the surface and not cutting, so my very slight sanding marks are not coming out, they are very fine and can't be felt by hand the panel just feels very smooth.

Never used G4. sounds too fine to me, G3 won't bring it up very well from 2000 grit, not got enough cut.

I tried some g6 today and feel like I am finally getting somewhere, for some reason even p2000 and above scratches on my 2k paint won't shift with g3 or g4, thanks for advice

G6 has worked for me for the last 30 years
