G mail

Hi all.
There's a blue square with a white zero in it that has come up across my gmail icon, I can't get rid of it. I can't get my mail because of it. I've tried following the destructions sign in here, there, share with this that and whatever. I don't like this at all. I'm not clued up with this sort of thing at all, Just want my Gmail back. What's going on?

I'm not sure how that got turned on, but here is where/how to check:

In Gmail, click the Gear > Settings > Advanced.

Look for Unread Message Icon. If it is Enabled, click the other button to Disable it. Be sure to click "Save changes" at the bottom of the page.

Have you tried opening in Thunderbird? Or is that what you use.

Sounds like you have a shortcut that is no longer working. You can access via any search engine simply by searching for gmail.

Maybe you have some malware or simply an update has broken the internet shortcuts on your machine. You can delete it and when you have got into gmail by a search simply drag the address from the browser (drag the padlock icon) to your desktop. This will create a new shortcut.

I am not a computer guru and do not understand much of the "computer language" - for example what is "Thunderbird????" - as in the aobve.
So...... it looks like your shortcut is corrupted - ie: that gmail icon that you click onto on your home screen - its now not working.
So.. go into your Google, or what ever you use to search web sites and type in "gmail"- open that then click on "gmail sign in"
You just have to remember your gmail address and password.
Does that work for you?
If so, delete the original gmail shortcut icon from your screen and create another.
OK?

I find it dead easy to use. It has an easily seen 'compose' button amongst other handy features.

On the PC/Laptop, I just use the web interface - https://mail.google.com
I have it permanently open as one of many browser tabs, but just add it as a favourite/bookmark if you want.

It's sorted now got a mate (guru) done it off his phone, It was windows outlook or some kind of Klingon technology that I'm not yet acquainted with. Thanks for the input lads but most of it goes over me head.
