G clamp repair

I have got hold of some record G clamps. They are in reasonable nick but one of them has a missing foot off the end. Anyone have ideas on how to replace it?

tig would be my bet. Machine a small disc up then weld it on with a few passes, maybe a preheat if they are cast iron using 309

It's not that easy, IIRC the foot has to swivel slightly.

i wouldnt bother, sometimes they are handy without the foot..

ah i thought you meant the bit cast onto the clamp not the bit on the screw.

i leave them off when they come off

Easy enough job for someone with a lathe,just a few minutes work then pein it over the exposed ball end,( with this problem happening quite a lot,they should be available as a consumable item!!)

I've always thought there would be a market for those.

By the time the swivel is shot the frame is usually bent as well

I've done half a dozen or so by countersinking one side of a couple of washers (actually the slugs from 25 or 30mm holesaws) put one washer over the ball end countersunk side facing the ball. Add a small blob of weld (more to heat the ball than anything and when still hot spread the ball a little with a few hammer blows. Place the second countersunk washer over the top, again CS facing the ball then weld the two washers together around their circumference. Grind back to tidy it up and you're done - maybe better ways to do it but none quicker and is good enough for what I need them for - haven't had one fail yet.

I got a suitable piece of steel bar and drilled a hole in the middle, then took a washer that just fitted over the ball and cut a split in it, put it together and closed up the split to hold it onto the ball, then tacked it in place.
Not exactly pretty (though it could be made OK) but it works, and is stronger than the original which came off the very first time it was used.
It's a Record too, not some unbranded thing.

The trouble is the penning is not strong enough.If they are clamped up on too much of an angle the swivel foot pops off,

christ have u seen the prices id want 2 sets of clamps for that . and quality ones
