In this vid I am using the middle button(actually a thumb button on my Logitech) to rotate and wheel to scoll in and out. You can also use the view cube with the right mouse button, click and hold then move mouse or click on cube to view different orientations.

No settings menu, no preferences....

Using Solidworks settings just swaps the orbit for pan. I need both.
Can't believe it's not possible, that's basic manipulation. Grab hold of the object with one button to move it, rotate it while holding another or by using another. Needs to be a mouse button and you can't use a shift modifier with the middle mouse button in the mouse settings.

I never had with several systems until I went on an NX course - I emailed back to work mid-way through the first day that we needed 3D mouses - the difference in ease and speed of use was amazing.
I even bought one for home use of Solidworks. Some of our lot don't use them, simply ignore them. I really don't know why - I picked up using one that first day. Saves so much wear and tear on the other house on the mouse, makes using the system so much nicer.
Its a right pain when I have to use remote sessions, or laptops, where the 3D mouse doesn't (yet) work. While working form home, I have sometimes been confused by my screen slowly rotating off into the distance . . .only to find the cat has fallen asleep leaning on it a touch .. .
Problem is, I try to zoom with it in every other program on the computer

I do similar if I take a screenshot of a model to email to someone, I try to rotate it on occasions

Now I am worried. Loads and loads of specs but no prices . Usually means expensive.
Which model specifically is cost effective versus usability?

Seems most places are £160 for the wireless basic one.
Personally I don't think it would be of much benefit unless you are sitting doing CAD all day.
For me the Logitech MX Master mice are good, still quite expensive and I have 3, one each in workshop, home and van.
