Hey there, just though I'd post on here to try and get some advice from lads working in the trade, specifically within the UK.
I'm 31 and I've been welding for roughly 6 years. At the moment I'm working for a relatively large agricultural firm fabricating and welding stuff like trailers, tankers and the like. It's a good stable job and I really enjoy it, but I can't help but feel I'm stuck at the bottom of the pile.
I have an NVQ Level 3 in metal fab and welding and a lot of experience in MIG, Flux cored and metal core wire process. I consider myself to be very competent in these processes but I'm still to try my hand at stick or tig , I also lack any codes.
Within the current company I'm at the top pay bracket and seem to be doing pretty well compared to other similar companies in Northern Ireland but it's a high volume, low quality product that leaves me feeling rather unfulfilled.
I worked for nearly 4 years for a large bespoke trailer company in Edmonton, Canada that had very low tolerances and high quality standards which I found to be more suitable to my skill set and attitude towards the job.
Basically my question is, where do I go from here to try and better myself, gain more experience in a wider range of processes and earn better money? I like the sound of working on pipeline or pressure vessel type projects, how do I find out about these vacancies and what courses or codes do I need to get under my belt before considering these paths?
Sorry for the long winded topic, thanks.
