Funny work story ....

I'm a bin driver(45) for a local authority. ...

I have a 23 yr old and a 17 yr old as agency loaders ...

The 23 yr old and is a wuss , thinks he is my boss (first mistake) and thinks he runs the round (second mistake ) .... the 17 yr old is just numb (also a gaffers grandson , matters not to me ! )

I TOLD him (23) today the wagon was going left , he decided to stomp out of the cab in a toddler tantrum and demand the truck went right.

End result ...

The truck turned left and dumped his **** where he stood ! And naffed off to another estate !

30 mins later I get a phone call to A collect him and B to bring all my crew back for "investigation "

I was found with no case to answer , and both loaders got a rocket under them ....

Tuesday morning will be FUN in my cab lol

Dont think he has realised yet ...

I will be the driver that dumped a loader ...

He will always be the loader that I dumped lol

Any funny stories of 'apprentice's' being brought back to ground

I used to regularly get a telling off for turning up late to sites due to picking up 3 guys on the way in the works van one of which was the son of the person i got the telling off from, after that i said you are ready and waiting like you would for the bus or i am gone and i used to turn upon site on my own quite often so i then got a request to wait for all strays after that.

Bosses young nephew (looked like Walter the softy) was very mouthy and didn't listen to a couple of older sparks when told to reign it in a bit. He kept it up for weeks and ****** a lot of people off soooo we got permission from nephews uncle to sort him out one Friday afternoon....
We grabbed him and put him in an empty site box (about 5x3x4 feet with a lockable lid) and told him he's staying there till Saturday morning. We went tuning all the lights off and locked doors etc and had a cup of tea for about half an hour.
When we went back it was very very quiet
We lifted the lid and he didn't move a muscle! Ended up lifting him out still crouched in a ball crying silently...
It took an hour to get him to stand up and talk....

Funnily enough he wasn't mouthy ever again!
Probably be arrested now for that one

Apprentice used to think more of her phone and "looks" than learning.

Was funny though as managed to convince her lots of stuff.

Ie when the clocks went back and we gained an hour it went to 25hrs a day.

And bees make honey so wasps make mustard.

(She wasnt the brightest of bulbs)

Got a few mouthy ones on site at the minute, they believe they can't be replaced, they are very wrong.

The Covid restrictions mean I have to be tough on people breaking the rules, the 2 loudest ones have both been warned about no masks, im on that site Tuesday and I won't hesitate to kick them off.
Separately they both tried to go above me on other stuff and it backfired massively. I dont care if you know the bloke who is my boss, he will back me every time

I'm 21 .
TBH I've never been lazy or not respectful to other people found during my working "career" , either older or younger than me .
I'm just me.
Used to stand to things I didn't agree but I've learned that it's always worth share your opinions and say NO when you think is necessary.
I also used to care about age ,I don't anymore in most cases.
I don't think to be the perfect lad or the perfect boss ,I just try to respect everyone and their opinions .
But I give respect towards who is respectful towards me.
I've had few discussions in the jobsite .
One as half boss ,(I've been representing my family company) 4 workers under "my" orders .
The engineer started to give me orders like make concrete or clean the bathroom .
I've answered telling him that I wasn't there to do things I wasn't supposed to do (I was working with the other workers , gluing tiles making parts etc )
He answered
"You're eating thanks to me"
My answer ?
Let's say that he didn't say it twice .
It's enough easy to understand what happened
Earlier the same day the customer was happy because of the LEDs illumination system .
(Remember I was 19 )
At some point he told me :
<A day you'll understand why it's important to have red lights> such a idiot.
My answer :
<It's not the light colour to make a man >

He didn't aspect an answer like that .

I don't care about age ,if I have to take a pipe wrench and bent it over someone.
I've been bullied too much at school , I'm not a child anymore .

Cant always be done but i can normally round up enough of us that work alone for those odd moments.

I can recall, as a young man, regularly coming back after a lunch break and having to release the latest crop of newly minted LAC's up from St's that had been cabletied to gensets.
I never put them there. Although after babysitting a few, it was probably the safest place for them.

Doubtless shenanigans still goes one but I wonder how many of these antics would be allowed now.

I work in veterinary so a little different to the trades but we get the same shi* different topic. A lot of the students these days think cleaning is below them and that they arent there to clean. Especially in our profession it's important, and if you cant prove you can at least clean a kennel efficently and effectively without being prompted 45 times then theres no way in hell I'm answering your 900 questions and teaching you the interesting stuff..
You reap what you sow. Work hard, prove yourself and build on the fundamentals. Seems to be in the last 5 years or so it's got worse.

Most of the shenanigans people used to get up to would definitely land you in hot water these days. I gave one of the old boys lip in my first week over a personal matter. I got wrapped in shrink wrap and left in the warehouse for a bit.

Three guys lost their jobs, two had been there since they were apprentices. Must have felt pretty dumb trotting down to the Jobcenter afterwards.

Spent enough of my school years being bullied to care about making a mess of someones life over something as 'trivial' as bullying.

@HopefullySoon Is your wagon wide enough to accommodate three personnel in the cab under Covid regulations?

Here, we have a driver + two loaders and after one street's length of walking, if they have to travel a bit to the next, one of the loaders either takes a van or [depending on the route] backtracks, takes a shortcut and waits for/meets the wagon to continue.

'Loaders' are not Agency guys, but Council employees - although that can't make any difference.

I'm full time council employed , loaders can be either full time / agency .The 2 I have are agency .

Yeah we have the van thing around here ....

.... non of my loaders drive ......
