i use hss split dies .open them up on 1st cut then go over again with them tightened a bit use rocol or tempars cutting compound and you get a good clean thread . a rolled thread is far better for strength and finish than a cut one mindI've used a die to cut longer threads on bolts before and it always comes out really raggy. I think the threads are normally rolled on at the factory.
