Picked this up from a charity shop in South Moulton for the princely sum of 50 pence

Installed some fresh AA batteries and it all works, well sort of

There’s lines across the screen when I take photos or video

Is there anything that can be done, ideally free or very cheap, or else it’s going in the bin

Probably the display. Shouldn't effect the images.

Mostly the lines are a display issue, not normally visible on the actual picture.
My Panasonic compact has the same fault, actually gets worse in bright sunlight.

Ive had a few fujis......I buy them from their Refurbished Stock Shop......Ive currently got a HS10 that ive had for a long long time.....keep saying I should replace it but I dont use it much these days....and the phone is so good for snaps etc.

I had a Finepix S6000 and it felt like a really solid camera. Sold it on ebay but sometimes wish I'd kept it for workshop stuff

I darn't look back at the money I have spent on new digital cameras over the years. And you can pick one up for 50p ! lol. Worth buying just for the battery probably

I need to keep a better eye out! Bought the daughter a Polaroid compact cam for xmas £80 odd - terrible pics, then it would not charge, swapped out for another one - exact same issues. Gave up at that point, but that's a nice looking piece of kit.

Nothing plunges in value faster than an old digicam.
Fuji S7000 was the first decent digicam I bought, and by the looks of that one, it's now worth less than 50p. Pro-rata, I think 30p would be about right.
I lent (note - lent) the Fuji to a girlfriend and she went off to America with it. Never came back. I was hearbroken at the loss of the camera. Her, not so much.

@Parm, as it was so cheap how about turn it into a ir spectrum or full spectrum camera? I have been looking at this recently as i have 2 old DSLR cameras sat around, Some cameras can have the IR filter removed and they become more interesting, Link below is just google images of ir and full spectrum pics.
