When you said, 'had' do you mean they were rendered down?Speaking of burning body fat... My dad would use the fat of animals as a starter for getting the wood boiler oging in the olden days. Had farmer friends and got a lot of waste animal fat like that.

No nails this time? Or send them all to @selectedgrub I'm sure he could something out of them?
I filled my bulk lpg tank at the old price, 42p a litre, in March. I've not had the heating on since then so it should last through to next year, when hopefully it's dropped down from whatever inflated price it's at now.I'm watching the price closely, it's like being a commodity trader. I'm about 3" above the outlet and trying to decide whether I do 500L and hope it drops more or assume it will rise.
I've lost count of the amount of times people have said to me "Shame you can't get gas","Isn't there a gas main here","Couldn't be doing with all the hassle of oil" we could have gas yet right now I'm pretty confident my heating bills will be quite a bit less than someone on mains gas.
I know....same here the only utilities I have is Electricity and Phone/Broadband. CH is oil and water and sewage is mine. There is a plus though...you can shop around for oil. Not good at the moment obviously.I'm watching the price closely, it's like being a commodity trader. You can burn body fat, it's called exercise and it keeps you warm whilst doing it, just the effort needed is the problemGoing down....Trying to fathom where it'll bottom out. Place your bets 60p? Still have 1,000 ltrs in reserve. Need 1,500. Wish I could burn body-fat.View attachment 359041
I don't think anyone can predict what will happen, we've been here 20 years and when it hit that low a couple of years back we paid 19p/L which was the lowest we've ever paid yet in the space of a year we paid the highest we've ever paid. It's way more than that now.I filled my bulk lpg tank at the old price, 42p a litre, in March. Or not.....![]()
I've given up shopping around, the reality is you rarely save more than a few quid even on a 1000L, I always do a sanity check but I have a good supplier who provides a service I like so I always use them. When they look back and see you have ordered every year from them it does make a difference. There was a spell a few years back where two local suppliers were quoting 5-6 weeks delivery time over Xmas. I phoned on Monday had my oil Thursday. Even if you found a supplier that was 1p/L cheaper(very unusual) it saves £10 on 1000LI know....same here the only utilities I have is Electricity and Phone/Broadband. No still loads of nails. I weighed in 200kg last time. Hardly worth the effort but metals are the only things really worth recycling. No nails this time? Or send them all to @selectedgrub I'm sure he could something out of them?
My local supplier, who I'd used for years, (who shall rename nameless) turned out to be way above Home Fuels Direct. Boilerjuice is so so.I've given up shopping around, the reality is you rarely save more than a few quid even on a 1000L, I always do a sanity check but I have a good supplier who provides a service I like so I always use them. People will often have you believe that joining oil clubs saves them hundreds, those people are deluded. I have never seen a price on Boilerjuice that was lower than I could get myself and the lead time is always weeks for the lowest prices. The only way you gain with Boilerjuice is if you have a small tank because they will do top ups of less than 500L.

I just ring two most local….always cheaper than boiler juice etc.I must be lucky that I have access to decent supplier. I do always check the prices. I’ve had quotes from 2-3 of the buying groups and they are never cheaper than what I can get locally with a phone. The only time they can match the local price is with 2-3 week lead time. If you need it in 2 days you pay a premium but that doesn’t happen with a local supplier.
Don’t get me wrong if there was big saving I would put my order somewhere else but in 20 years of buying oil I’ve never found there to be big savings.
One thing I have seen is when people sign up to top up schemes they got proper shafted and end up paying the top prices.
