Fuel Line Leak Repair

The end to a perfect day. Smelt petrol on the way home from the FiLs funeral! 2011 Mondeo MK4 Duratec 2.0

Sure enough. Leak right on this elbow where it's wet:

Can I quick fix this? I've ordered some 5/16" repair tube and clips from Amazon.

Feel like death warmed up anyway but keep testing negative for Covid, could have done without this tonight!

From some sleuthing the complete pipe from Ford is part no 1523195 6G91-9J280-BG. I'll ring them but likely an arm/leg job! Maybe my motor factors will have something.

Seems you need fuel line disconnect tools too...little bits of plastic. Got laddo printing a selection of 5/16" tools I found on Thingiverse.

Yes please, that'd be a great help. A metre of your finest hose say and a couple of stainless clips? The leaking hose here is 8mm dia.

If it's leaking due to abrasion from the engine cover, putting a larger outside diameter pipe in it's place (especially a softer one) will accelerate the wear.
It's good practice to replace, not repair fuel pipes (it should have words to that effect on it, or at least the remnants given it's age), look on the engine cover for the friction point and modify that or replace the missing rubber cones that hold it in place.

When I bought fuel hose and did my research, a few years back, R10 should not be used under bonet where there is high heat as it will crack. Its intended to be submersed in a fuel tank, therefore has NBR rubber for the inside and outside of hose.
R9 has a heat resistant rubber on the outside to protect it and is what I would use. The Cohline appears to be R9 so is the correct stuff

Fuel line is dated 2010. Yes it is stamped "do not repair". Found someone on TalkFord with a leak in exactly the same place but far worse than mine. I'll look at the cover thanks.

The Cohline spec is far in excess of R9. I gather that Gates are working on a competing product though.

The yanks have been on e10 for years, not sure why the U.K. is finding it so difficult to get into the groove.

I bought e10 resistant hose a few weeks ago, but when the outside was wetted with fuel black goo came off it.

I’m hoping the inside is a little more resilient. It’s only running 3psi.

Most of the Gates on sale in the UK is counterfeit. If the price is not eye watering, then you have fake hose. There is lots of it about, all overprinted rubbish.

I'm so pleased to have found knowledgeable folk ref fuel lines. I fired up my 1983 Cabaret Capri a while back after 20 years in a damp (I didn't know M&D's garage roof leaked) garage. Now in my garage next to it's friend.

Fired up pretty much first time after a gentle turn over, then with a new battery. This even with the the horrid old Ford VV. Good old "proper" petrol!

But I figured I'll need new lines. Did buy some from the motor factor but wasn't confident on their product knowledge / the spec so didn't fit it in the end.

Both the photo above and yours seem to show the fuel line fitted incorrectly - it looks 'pushed out' on the corner compared to the return line. Possibly why it has been rubbing on the engine cover. I'd say yours looks worse, it could just be the angle the photo was taken at of course. I worked at a Ford dealers for a couple of years, I don't remember any great problem with the fuel lines on that model.

Yes that's a good spot thanks. Tbh I've only had the cover off once before now since I bought the car last November. Don't think I moved it.

It appears to be squirting fuel from the outside of the bend, not where it might rub on the engine cover.
