fuel additives for storage ?

second year in a row my old car that i keep off the road over winter has got running issues over stale petrol , seems to have gotten worse the last couple of years as never had any bother

i see online theres a bunch of additives that claim to help it keep

do they work? what should i look out for when buying ?

Why not just put fresh fuel in it?

well yeah i have , but i leave a bit in for moving it about over winter plus the fact it would be hassle to empty it 100%

seems it doesnt like the dregs...im sure it will clear like it did last year after running a tank through it , just if these preservers work it would be a fiver well spent

It's the ethernol separating from the fuel it then drags water into the mix.
Rots the fuel pipes and rubber bits I'm not sure adding anything to the mix will help

For just an overwintering, you could try filling up to the brim with 97 octane. Or whatever the "best" fuel you can find is.

Supposedly less ethanol and with a smaller air gap, lower surface area to volume ratio, contamination and evaporation should be less of an issue. The price difference on a full tank will probably be less than or similar to fuel stabiliser.

Longer term, I'd drain it all and spray some diesel in. Running it until it's very smoky should let you know there's not much petrol left in the carb to turn to turn to varnish. Will need to refill and drain the carb on reawakening though.

had thought about brimming it with super , but then im down £60 if its still bad

might just pump it out next year ...hassle though
