Frustration trying to find a stockholder

Does anyone else find it frustrating trying to buy steel in small quantities?

I'm not in the industry, so find it a reall struggle to get my hands on steel. Bugger all places are open on a weekend, even fewer are open after 5pm....

I work office hours and fancy cracking on this evening, I only want some 50mm x 3 mm box and some 50mm x 3mm flat... nothing complicated and yet no bugger can supply it.

I finally found a fabricator company near the docks in liverpool, who are open on a saturday and dont mind selling steel - I got 14ft of 50mm x 3mm angle, 6ft 50mm x 3 flat and 6ft 50mm x 3mm box all for £22 (plus £8 cutting it to fit in my car) cash. SORTED! only they arn't open late and as its not there main line of work, its a struggle to get them to supply without giving them a few hours notice...

I need tesco to start selling steel. hang on....maybe I mean NETTO

Anyone else not in teh trade find it annoying?

And finally, anyone close to liverpool got some 50mm box and 3mm flat spare I can pick up tonight for a few notes?

Have you tried the good old internet? Someone like www.metals4u.co.uk won't be the cheapest but may save some frustration.

hey dangle_kt have you tried Higson Edwards? they're open on saturday mornings for collection only but will deliver onto the wirral weekdays for £15 on orders over £50.

How much 50mm box you after?

me and my wife work fulltime so are out all the time, I doubt I can go and collect from the local post office and I live in the middle of scum-ville and it wouldn't be there when I got home if it was left outside on the drive - or maybe it would be there, but it would have been used to open my garage door and then thrown through the front door and windows.... good idea though!

2x 7ft and a few extra feet to make it into a narrow frame - say 3 or 4 ft

I've looked at the supplier list - very helpful, but again all 9-5, mon to fri type operations. I'll try Higson Edwards next week though.

I think you might struggle to find anywhere thats not to be honest.

he was great with me, give him a ring first though as its a way to go only to find out he does not have what you need. (he will be in the book i spose.)
