just a heads-up, in case anyone is considering getting a fruit dehydrator, for fruit, meat, to dry 3d printer filament, or even welding rods?

That's big. My wife bought one from a charity shop for £5, it's 320mm round one with 5 trays and we've been doing apples in it.

my 80y/o mum is obsessed with not wasting a single apple off the tree in the garden: she's stewed and frozen at least one batch (pan-full) every day since the end of june.
we now have one undercounter freezer completely full: she can dry them out now instead.

plus, i *adore* dried banananana chips: and asda keeps selling fresh off at 10p a bunch, so i can make myself a few 10s of kilos.

I used to enjoy the ones covered in dried yogurt but they got expensive for what was mostly a bag of air.

Im lactose intolerant:

I like dried fruit - dates, figs and apples are my favourites.

I have never had a go at drying apples - but I would think it would easy?

You could buy sort of semi dried apples with cinnamon once - sort of sweet and chewy.

Sounds absolutely 'orrible . I like a crunchy red apple from the fridge and that's about the only fruit I eat.

We have Worcester Pearmains in the garden and they don't keep for long so they get made into chutney and apple sauce and various other concoctions so dehydrating is just another way to preserve them. They are perfect for eating at the moment. I don't really eat the red apples from the supermarket, we have fresh pineapple, grapes, bananas and occasionally oranges and mango all from Aldi and have tried the dehydrated banana.

We used to get crates of end of life bananas at the market for a couple of quid a crate.

So long as you chopped them all up and dried them on the day of purchase they were spot on.

Our dryer was rubbish though. I think it cost about a million pounds an hour to run and heated the whole house, whist, somehow, directing the heat away from the fruit.

Still... I like dried bananas!
