Fro 160 fp

Well after a 345 mile round trip I have my first proper tig

It's a FRO (as in saf fro) 160FP, DC only but with pulse. I really need to find a manual for it if I can (I cant find it on the saf-fro site) as I would like to add a foot pedal. Also a manual may be handy if I have any faults, but first I need to wire it up for single phase as it's set up for twin at the moment. I already have a 32A spur setup for welding in the workshop with the oxford.

So a question for those who may know, I know what most of the knobs and switchs do. It's just the 2 preset type ones on the 3rd row down either side of the tig/stick switch. Is the one on the left (tig side) preflow? and the ones on the right (stick side) antistick time? Or preflow and postflow?

I'd like a foot pedal for this, or even a pinout would be handy to make another one fit.

Last question to go to single phase, is it a case of replacing the plug with a 32a 3pin and then changing the switch on the front to turn the other way as it has a flip over to pick 240 or 415 (see top pic)

So after a good long look inside the machine and following the wires out, I simply took the knob off the front flipped the one way lock behind it round and presto 240v single use! Then went out and picked up a 20Ltr adams cylinder of Argon and had a little play, it does seem to work well and has a nice stable arc. The spot weld feature should be handy too, all the other bits work fine as well.

Just want to sort a foot pedal out now, that may prove harder to do though.

Well all is working fine, but would still like to add a foot pedal really. I've contaced Saf -fro but the only manual they can trackdown is the lower spec Tig 160 CC, so no pulse or foot pedal. It looks like it's going to be a case of tracing the wires out and see how many pins are used and where they go.

But if anyone needs a pdf of the Fro 160 CC I have one now so just drop me a pm, as I can find little reference to any Fro kit anywhere it may help sombody

Gonna have to get myself a single phase TIG to practice stainless steel with. DC is all i can afford at the mo, but most of the jobs i am looking at seem to ask for SS more often than ally anyway.

Thanks yeah I would liked a Ac/DC one, but the budget stopped me. Though 99% of what I want to make will be steel anyway.

At the moment I've got all the panels off the tig trying to trace out the remote wires, loads of pins in the plug but only 5 are used really. The schematic I have is for a lower spec one, it does say which pins it use's but not what they do!
