Anyone on here familiar with the Fritz Werner 5.160WS mill?
I got hold of one a few weeks ago and have been very slowly stripping down and cleaning the knee, saddle, table etc. everything had been lubed with grease including the ways. I’ve cleaned the old grease out and used appropriate oils for this.
I’m now looking at the vertical head and horizontal spindle. The head had been pumped full of grease. For now I’ve cleaned out the worst of the old grease and put some fresh in.
If anyone else has one of these mills I’d love to know what lubricants you use for the lube points on the head as well as the reservoirs for the wick feeds. I’ve topped the reservoirs up with the spindle oil I use on my south bend lathe for now.
I need to get the machine in position and in to use now so any info appreciated.
I have posted on Practical Machinist and contacted Tony @lathes.co.uk. Tony had generic advise regarding lubricants which has been useful but nothing specific.
I was able to get hold of a manual through someone on practical machinist but it’s very brief (and in Spanish) and makes no reference to oil types etc. it looks like a home made manual.
Cheers!
