blenkie1 what strange things go on at spadeadam now, I was refused entry down a farm track thereabouts by a soldier about 12 years ago he was carrying. I know it was a test bed for the blue streak rocket many years ago so what gives now ,do you think its something we're not allowed to know, I know guys that have worked there and everything seems to be underground so is there a general consensus. I had passed that sign (spadeadem) on the a69 many times over the years and promised myself that am gonna have a look at it one day, anyway on the day I ( family) went we were totally rebuffed by this guard , obviously it is not a redundant site
No its far from redundant. Its the biggest electronic training base in Europe, one of two. British Gas had a research engineering site in the middle of it where I worked (owned by GL Noble now). Most of the stuff is still up from Blue Streak and the actual rocket engine is sitting in a cradle near to the gatehouse. You can as far as I know can still vist the site in a group but you would need to contact the person in charge. The local youth club had a visit not long ago. Loads of old Russian stuff to see even a scud missile launcher. Seemingly they just found some missile silos when the were cutting some of the wood down.
