Look up flow drilling, they let you tap threads in thin material far stronger than you'd usually achieve. Presumably run them fast with a high feed pressure, must need a very sturdy pillar drill.

Those bits that make a hole, then push the molten metal in to make it thicker, then tap it look great.
So I looked at getting some, I didn't expect they'd be cheap but I really did get a shock!

As already said I think you need a decent amount of power to do that. Similar to friction welding.
