frequency, max is 70hz. struggling with aluminium.

the company I'm doing my apprentiship has paid for mig tuition. but I have been snoting stuff together for a while so am working quickly through the tests. he says what ever time is left over I can do as I please so I'm planning to get some tig lessons. YouTube is good but someone with their 1000 hours over your shoulder is best.

You can put a bead down no problem.
id guess youre just not close enough to the fillet with your tungsten

I had a quick look on the weldquip stuff from the link at the top and their 800 quid machine does more than this. yeah paid full price bought it as 2 people I know use them. mainly steel but mess around with aluminium. I like working with ally so i may have to upgrade at some point. transformer machines coped for a while with 60hz so my belligerence is tough to beat. still though your right, wrong tool, expensive mistake.

I bought the 200t analogue, I knew the AC frequency was less then others ( but not a issue) but it had nothing but good reviews, good layout, 5 year warranty, and cheaper than most others if you look around. you made your decision it was to you the best at the time. I think it is a good quality welder. I searched for months and found there is no impartial ( or up-to-date) guidance to buying on any of the forums/ web.

progress definitely made. 2.4 zirc tungsten and filler. 130 amps. getting there. the 2 bits are joined so that has to be a 5/10. I have some 1.6 tungsten and filler too. would that help on 2.5mm ally. that's all I could get but I got quite a lot of it.

You’ve taken the settings recommended to you for an inside fillet and applied them to an outside corner.
These are two completely different joints that require very different settings and techniques.

An outside corner is a tough joint. You should really master the fillet first.

Exactly.
130amps would be ok on 2.5mm filet but it’s way too hot for an open joint like an outside corner of the same gage. As your fixed at 70hz I’d simply never change that. I’ve never had a reason to go that low if I have a choice. As you don’t have a choice just leave it at 70. My old magicwave is also pretty limited in this area with a range of 40-100hz. But it’s quite a useful range and almost 25 years old so it’s alright for me. The tweco has a massive scope 40-200.
Back to your joint 2.4 filler is spot on try 90-100 amps.

I had a go at a few beads to shed any light on the frequency discussion.

I did 40, 70, 120, 200, 250 Hz.


All 85A 3mm plate 1.6mm filler, 2.4mm Tungsten (white)

If honest I cant split them.

Acetone wiped the plate first, I re-ground the tungsten to blunt point for each run and cooled the plate with air to get some consistency
