This weekend, which is in France, was Thursday until Sunday night has seen one huge illegal Teknival (Rave), unfold in a small village of 120 inhabitants in the Indre, near Chateauroux, Villegongis to be exact, 30,000 people, 40 sound systems, you get the picture.

It's all been beautifully done, with the exception of one bloke who fell asleep in long grass in a field, and got run over.

The owner of the 70 hectares of land was peed off he wasn't informed before, but if he had it wouldn't have happened, the first day 10,000 ravers was enough to put off any attempts to stop it, so the prefecture went on to a damage limitation exercise, and let it continue.

The land owner voiced his concerns about the land being left a mess, beer cans, bottles etc.., He's been down on site, everyone was polite and thanked him, they turned off the sound systems for two hours per day, and tidied up, the owner will not press charges.

Pretty incredible.

Goes to show good organisation.

Sarkozy when he was in government allowed legal Teknivals from 2003, till 2016, it stopped. So each year a (generally) military base was set aside to party, limiting the overflow of people, ensuring first aid and all that jazz, as of 2017, it went illegal again till 2019, the pandemic ground it to a halt, hence the first one in four years.

Goes to show you don't need organisation for 30,000 people to party and have a good time for free, and be responsible.

Ok the French government did put 400 police and volunteer medical aid in place, provided bottled water and toilets. Fair shout, and yeah who pays that is the negative point, but hey.

What's really interesting is the Prefet, (person in charge of a region), has said that, seeing as this will happen once a year, and they can't stop it, maybe they should allow it, and define a place, each year as they did, so at least it can be prepared for it, that way they can organise in advance, as opposed to an impromptu affair like this year, which is positive.

Rather the exact opposite of what happened in Redon, my local town in 2021, when 1500 people decided to have an illegal rave, they fought the police for 9 hours, and someone lost there hand, sadly. Then the police smashed up the sound system with axes, much tear gas etc, French equivalent of the Castlemorton shenanigans.

You normally find people just want to have harmless fun without state or police interference at these raves...the trouble always starts when the law decides you have had your allocated happy time and start getting heavy handed. What's more harmless than 10 square acres of stoned hippies

So, I'm a pacifist, and I'm not defending what happened at Redon in 2021, the police were super heavy handed, then a couple of Molotov cocktails were thrown at the police, I won't pretend they weren't, not clever.

I was at work through all of this, and glad I missed the affrontments, frankly, but you could hear the sound systems 20 kms up the valley at work.

The above post was a bit of a 'game changer', since then, they don't intervene, Amnesty International kicked off, following the chap losing his hand, it all went to court, there was no recourse.
