Hello everyone Im trying to attach a single hing steel hasp to my freezer tried a steel epoxy glue turned out to be a waste of money. Cant put in screws as it will damage the lines. Last alternative is soldering. The problem is I have no idea where to start. Is it possible to get the hasp soldered on as well as the staple. If so would I be able to get some company or a private contractor to come to my house and sort it out. Any help would be appreciated. The freezer is your standard 5 ft freezer if pictures would help I can post some. Thanks a lot

Damage what "lines"?
The heat from soldering as said will damage the internal insulation & I doubt any one would do it for you. It would also strip the paint of for quite a distance.
How about rivets?
Wont the lock in the handle do?
Failing that what about a band of steel (or chain / steel wire) all the way round the freezer & through the handle & then a lock?

I doubt very much you will solder it on. The mass of metal will act as a heat sink drawing the heat away from the joint.
You will need to use a mechanical joint of some sort i.e rivets, machine screws and nuts etc. Mechanical fixings will cause much less damage than trying to solder or (weld?) something to the door.

You haven't said if it is a chest or upright freezer, all freezers have a hot gas line that runs near the lid or door opening to stop your door freezing shut, some freezers have the condenser lines running all the way down on the inside of the outer skin, I have seen some that have riveted or put in a hasp with self tappers on the freezer body, but they have done so in ignorance of knowing that there are high pressure lines running behind that steel skin. I wouldn't advise it as you are playing Russian roulette really with your freezer and if your unlucky to burst a line then its probably down the tip for it next.

i wouldnt think there would be any pipe work where you would want to fix it its all usually at the back so that it is accessible for repair
Thanks everyone for the response there is no handle as such on it. Its an upright freezer. This question has been posted on other forums im beggining to think there isnt a solution welding was really my last option and based on the advice from learned members of the board it seems highly un advisable. MMM we need an einstein to trouble shoot this dilemma.

It depends how secure you want to make it, but I have done them in the past with double sided tape, the type that is used for vehicle trim, usually it means spot welding the hasp to a strip of metal to increase the surface area for the tape, I did a chest freezer by fitting 2 hasps, one each end of a stainless strip about 3 foot long, it was for a hospital kitchen, just to stop casual pilfering, not top security.

so if there are pipes near to the door just use a plate to extend the fixings further into the side of the freezer instead of the edge
LOL the buzzer sounds good.... how tightly held down was the stainless strip by the tape paul? In that case why wouldnt one put the tape directly beneath the hasps and attach it directly to the freezer. Unless the strip gives more surface area for adhesion does that make such a difference?

Direct fixing may well be strong enough for your application, the ones I have done have all been in a commercial catering environment so need to stand up to a certain amount of abuse, the material these things are made from is very thin so anything to reinforce and increase the surface area helps, also remember you are not gluing to the metal, only to the paint or powder coated finish so the joint is only as strong as the paint adhesion.
