Freeview Recording Box.

Wonder if anyone can help with some advice please, we do not have sky or any form of fibre optic cable to our home, so we are pretty much stuck with freeview, in the past we have purchased a couple of refurbished humax pvr type boxes with twin tuners, ideal for recording two seperate programs and watching a third, these sadly only lasted under two years each, humax say that it is the hard disk inside which has gone faulty, when you watch back a recorded program it jumps and stutters missing out huge chunks of dialog on the drama programs we like to watch, been online and the choice is overwhelming, with boxes that connect to wifi etc, (we do have wifi) just wonder what you lads and lasses have that can recommend?, thanks, in advance Chris.

We have a Humax freesat recorder, I'm told that it's a standard PC hard drive in it & it's virtually a slot in job to change. I've never looked inside as we have had it about 7 years without trouble so it might be worth seeing if anyone has a spare one & trying it before chucking them out.

Try formatting the hard drive in settings before you do anything else with it. We got about 3 years out of our refurbished freesat box then the motherboard went faulty. I tried a new drive and it was an easy swap but didn't fix it. The old box still works as a receiver just no record facility. We have a freeview terrestrial box from LG which records two channels and it also has a built in 3D blu-ray/DVD player which works well but the interface is not as smooth or refined as the Humax. It does all the WiFi, youtube and iplayer stuff as well so well worth a look at that kind of machine.

My better half is a recording junkie all the soaps etc plus all the depressing murder/misery type documentary's, at least I get some peace, am keen to prolong this as long as possible

No different to our lass, fella. She moaned when we first got rid of sky; for the recording facility.

That was over a yr ago now, thankfully she soon stopped. She watches almost all 'her' tv on an ipad now. So a double winner as I dont have to listen to the rubbish

Only thing we do miss from time to time is the pause function, but there's nothing on tv worth pausing for so...
