A buddy at work upgraded to a new hobart mig welder and gave me a Clarke 180EN. He put a new wire feed on it recently and a new lead and ground clamp. He says it runs fine when polarity is set for flux but whenever he tried to switch polarity to run 75/25 gas he says the machine just wont run with any power. He said it will just sputter and form no puddle or get no penetration.
He said he thought the rectifier was bad.
We both have welded for a living for 20+ years each so not user error, although I havnt even tried it yet and just got it today, im just wondering what it could be before I decide to spend any time/ money on it.
Any ideas what the issue could be? Could it be fixable or should I not bother with such an old machine?
Thanks!
