He's still around. He is on facebook, rebuilding a Puch Maxi at the moment. I met him at a classic car show once, He wouldn't make eye contact and looked like he wanted to be anywhere than where he was. I thought he was very arrogant

He always reminds me of someone who works in some middle management job, suit and tie stuck in a boring office doing something no one really cares about, and he does metalwork as a hobby evenings and weekends. Of course that means as an amateur he knows a lot more about it than people who actually do it for a living.
I remember him on that salvage squad rubbish years ago, i nick named him "Half a thou", because he was always prattling on about precision. He was writing in one of the classic bike magazines, that saw me not buying it anymore.
